Aquarius Season begins with a startling New Moon on 21 January, featuring the Sun and Moon in supportive sextile with optimistic Jupiter, in Aries, and a slow-moving Mars aspecting Mercury, plus Eris, the recently discovered Kuiper Belt planet which represents a spiritual warrior energy for finding your most authentic voice. Mars also aspects Makemake, which speaks to inner activism in support of deep values and internal moral compass. The Sun and Moon are found as well in close square to Haumea, another one of these new Kuiper Belt Objects that were only in this century named as planets by the IAU, the International Astronomical Union. Along with Eris, Makemake and Haumea are proving to be important in Western Astrology. They represent connection to Nature, and to natural law, that is, right action and right relationship. Looking at this optimistically, what could therefore be coming up for us during this significant season would be rising to our highest principles of considered action and truth-telling, both individually and as a society.

We must also recognize that Mercury is still moving slowly for these first two weeks, emerging from its retrograde shadow period only by early February. Until then we will be in part looking back to what we did or did not accomplish in the past year, and meditating on our current situation. From January 28th to the 30th, an interesting grand trine exists in the sky between Sun, Mars in Gemini, and Makemake in Libra, potentially stimulating the drive within to allow us to be able to embody more completely our ideal selves.

The Leo Full Moon of 5 February indicates a shift in the energy toward more of an action orientation, and brings new revelations that might allow us to act more directly in accordance with inner principles, and values, while the Moon’s Last Quarter on 13 February features Sun, Saturn, Venus, Neptune, and Eris in an exciting combination of aspects that might involve breakthrough into a whole new way of seeing our task ahead and our pathway forward.

ARIES (20 Mar. – 19 Apr.). This is an interesting and self-reflective season for you, Aries. As it begins, with a dramatic New Moon on 21 January, you are thinking about your future, along with your social groups and friendships that help show you the way. The first two weeks, with the retrograde shadow period of Mercury continuing in your career sector, make for an introspective time, when you will be reexamining many life factors as well as your relationship commitment. The timing of 28 January, and the Leo Full Moon of 5 February, herald a plunge into the mystical. This affects partnership connection, and your own developmental arc toward your next stage.

TAURUS (20 Apr. – 19 May 19). This is a quite profound and philosophically active season for you, Taurus. With Mars running retrograde, the ruler of your relationship sector, partnerships are on your mind, both personal and otherwise, and subject to deep reflection concerning where they are heading and how they impact your own arc of development. Relationships actually contribute to your understanding of the way that your own innermost moral compass influences your choices. You are also reviewing and questioning your worldview along with expanded possibilities for education or travel. After the 5 February Full Moon takes place in your home and family sector, new initiatives there are more likely.

GEMINI (20 May – 20 Jun.). You are in for a wild ride this season, Gemini, especially when you take seriously what is going on beneath your surface layers. After the 21 January New Moon in your higher mind sector, for the next two weeks, with Mercury still recovering from its recent retrograde, you will be digging into many areas of your life, sorting through with a deeply inspired spiritual perspective. This is especially true from the 28th to the 30th. Then, with the Leo Full Moon of 5 February, you are launching into new ventures based on the interior shift in point of view that you have for many weeks been cultivating.

CANCER (21 Jun. – 20 Jul.). This is another important season for you, Cancer, emphasizing your major partnership agreements, and applying to all of your key collaborations. You are also studying your principles and moral depth of purpose, and on a significant road of personal transformation derived from the mirror of partnership. With Mercury still recovering from its recent retrograde, there is introspection and self-reflection with respect to your entire relationship dynamic. The Leo Full Moon of 5 February brings up quite strongly issues of self and other, and reflects a shift. There is more certainty on your part about the direction that this year might be taking for you.

LEO (21 Jul. – 21 Aug.). This is another thoughtful season for you, Leo, as the 21 January Aquarius New Moon takes place in your opposite sign. Mercury is still in recovery from its recent retrograde. Business and personal relationships are a key focus as the year really begins to get going, along with a strong commitment to career decisions based on heart over head. Many options have been presented and you will want to exercise maximum discretion, and, especially important, trust your intuition in doing so. The 5 February Full Moon in your sign is a significant juncture, when the energy shifts in favor of your most deeply considered choices.

VIRGO (21 Aug. – 21 Sept.). This is an interesting season of gaining ground on what you are truly up to, Virgo. Mercury, your ruler, is now slowly recovering from its recent retrograde, which involved your creative output and its uses. You also have been feeling into and analyzing whatever it is that brings you joy. Your mission of service to the society that surrounds you may be on the line. The end of the January month brings greater attention to career choices partaking of the deeper values that you have, while the Leo New Moon of 5 February signals a change in the energy toward your unconscious motivations and, paradoxically, more focused outcomes.

LIBRA (22 Sept. – 22 Oct.). This is still a season of introspection in its first half, Libra, with Mercury straightening out from its recent retrograde and with Mars also recovering. You are committed to creative projects although things are moving slowly at best at this time. The end of the month, from the 27th to the 30th, finds you in a spiritually reflective mode and seeing your way clear to new formulations of belief and worldview. These are based on your own internal moral compass rather than arbitrary intrusions of consensus thought. Heading into mid-February, you are feeling committed to service and seeking an action orientation to match your most deeply felt values.

SCORPIO (23 Oct. – 21 Nov.). This is a season of recovery from the recent retrogrades, Scorpio, including that of your ruler, Mars, while also adjusting to a new level of inner understanding. You are focused on home and family concerns and digging deep internally. The depth work that you are engaged in right now is the biggest story of your current astrology. The energy begins to shift toward the end of the January month, when you will find an even greater commitment to transforming from the inside out, and again with the Full Moon of 5 February in your career sector, when startling revelations may sound a call to action.

SAGITTARIUS (22 Nov. – 20 Dec.). This is a season for you, Sagittarius, of creativity, communication, and curiosity. In the wake of the recent retrogrades of personal planets Mercury and Mars, you are rethinking your true values and slowly recovering your forward momentum. By the 28 January weekend, you are becoming more social and also getting more out of it in terms of depth relations to your own interior spaces and most profound values. By the time of the Leo Full Moon of 5 February you are more thoroughly tuning in to the notion that your way forward is a thoughtful one and depends on your connection to all that you hold inside.

CAPRICORN (21 Dec. – 19 Jan.) This is another consequential season, Capricorn, as Mercury slowly recovers from its recent retrograde in your sign, its shadow period lasting to early February. This has likely been a time for you of things being a little disarranged, or coming unglued, requiring consideration of new viewpoints and perhaps different solutions. The Full Moon of 5 February reflects a change in the energy and also brings issues of self and other to the fore as you transform. You are seeking nothing less than an entirely revitalized basis for your work in the world and for reformulating your pathway forward.

AQUARIUS (20 Jan. – 17 Feb.). This is a powerful season for you, Aquarius, with the Sun in your sign, and with Mercury and Mars in slow-motion collision from their recent retrogrades. This is also a philosophically active time, when you are feeling moved by significant revelations in how you see the culture around you, and a commitment toward doing something about it. You are articulate about the world and your part in it, including depth researches into your own psyche, plus your relationships. The Full Moon of 5 February in your opposite sign creates a focus on important others as playing a key role in your own arc of personal development.

PISCES (18 Feb. – 19 Mar.). This is another internally oriented season for you, Pisces, with the Aquarius New Moon that begins it in your sector of unconscious process and dream imagination. Keeping a journal by your bed is recommended to record what comes through. As January ends, your inner world speaks even more directly to you. With Mercury still recovering, these first two weeks of Aquarius might also be a good time to reconsider your values and to what extent you act upon these out in the world. The 13 February Quarter Moon represents an interesting juncture when you may be required to put your money where your mind and heart are aligned.
