Former Chloé Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld is honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art

The visionary designer is the focus of the Costume Institute’s summer exhibition ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty', which opens with fashion’s biggest night out – the Met Gala

Karl Lagerfeld is being honored with a retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, where 28 of the late designer’s creations for Chloé will be exhibited alongside his sketches – selected from the Chloé archives by Curator-in-Chief Andrew Bolton.

‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’, which opens with fashion’s biggest night out, the Met Gala, on Monday, May 1st 2023, explores the stylistic language and aesthetic themes that recurred throughout his glittering 65-year career.

Lagerfeld’s time at the helm of Chloé marks a seminal chapter in the history of the Maison. Hired by its founder, Gaby Aghion, in 1963, over the following two decades, Lagerfeld reimagined dresses with a new lightness in both fabric and spirit, honing Chloé’s singular vision of femininity along the way. When he returned as Creative Director between 1992 and 1997, he continued to build on this legacy.
