CREATE DESIRABLE AND LASTING PRODUCTS WITH LOWER ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT.

We believe that it is our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact and protect the limited resources of our planet. To do so, we must first identify where we can do better. This is why we have produced our Environmental Impact Report. We are holding ourselves accountable and working with external, independent advisors to change our practices – every step of the way. From this starting point, we can translate the insights into objectives and concrete actions to reduce our impact on climate, biodiversity, and oceans.

EMISSIONS

Chloé is implementing various initiatives across the organization to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. To date, these actions have resulted in a 19% reduction in emissions per product, against the 30% target set for 2025.

Furthermore, the target for reducing absolute carbon emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) has been met. This target aimed for a 25% reduction by 2025 compared to the 2019 baseline year—representing an average annual reduction of 4.2%—in line with a trajectory compatible with the Paris Agreement and Richemont Group’s carbon emission reduction plan.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

It all starts with design. We aim to improve our cutting efficiency to minimize waste and to recycle or reuse whatever remains.

We also plan to minimize surplus stock by implementing supply chain management processes. Since 2021, we have stopped destroying raw materials or finished products. Instead, we reuse, recycle, and donate items through various reliable channels. In 2023, we launched a second-hand initiative in partnership with Vestiaire Collective, based on this technology.

The digital passport opens up new opportunities for large-scale circularity, as key players in the fashion value chain will be able to ensure full transparency and traceability for their products.

ANIMAL WELFARE

We care about the welfare of the animals we rely on. The animal-derived materials used by Chloé are by-products of other industries and do not come from endangered species.

We are working to ensure that the wool used by Chloé is either certified to the Responsible Wool Standard or is recycled wool.

Chloé is also a member of the Animal Welfare Group, a subgroup of the Leather Working Group. The Leather Working Group is an international organization comprising stakeholders across the leather supply chain, working to promote best environmental practices in leather manufacturing and related industries. The primary objective of the Animal Welfare subgroup is to educate the leather value chain on key aspects of animal welfare, including—but not limited to—gathering information and resources on animal welfare practices and farm assurance standards.

PACKAGING

Compared to the 2021 baseline year, Chloé has achieved a 10% reduction in the weight of its packaging.

This progress is driven primarily by two key measures:

– reducing additional packaging elements (such as care guides);

– optimizing the weight of existing packaging by introducing lighter cardboard. For instance, the new small and medium-sized shoeboxes weigh 25% less than previous models.

At the same time, Chloé has initiated a shift towards using recycled materials for certain protective pouches in order to limit the consumption of natural resources. These changes began in 2023.

EVENTS & FASHION SHOWS

We carefully measure the CO2e emissions of our fashion shows in collaboration with the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM). The FHCM has developed an impact measurement tool and an eco-design tool with the assistance of the consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). We work with partners such as Muuto to ensure the recovery and reuse of our set designs after each show.

BIODIVERSITY

In 2022, we began measuring our biodiversity footprint using the Global Biodiversity Score tool and following the framework established by Science Based Targets for Nature. This tool enables us to quantify and analyze the impact of our operations (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) on biodiversity, based on key pressures on ecosystems.

We recognize that between 70% and 85% of our biodiversity impact stems from our raw materials; consequently, we prioritize sourcing from suppliers certified to standards that ensure respect for ecosystems—such as organic cotton. You can also find a list of regulated substances used in our products and packaging here.

GOING FURTHER

Chloé is always working on improving its practices and integrating news approaches, such as water consumption. Water scarcity is becoming critical and directly affects the availability of freshwater, posing significant threats to the communities in which we operate. This is why we have launched a new project aligned with the SBTN methodology to take into account water quantity and water quality across our value chain.
